Aspura is a mystic village in the lap of Aravalli Hills, Rajasthan. Established 500 years ago, it was where the saint, Ram Das meditated and found spiritual liberation to bring its name, ‘As’, where wishes come true. It is located 75km North of Jaipur city not far off the SH 37 highway. While rug weaving is the most common expression of art in the region, you’ll find maandana, mojri and mehandi being practiced as well. The towns spiritual significance is highlighted by a unique temple in the vicinity.

Words can’t express what a beautiful experience I had at Jaipur Rugs. I have never seen an organization where each and every person feels so empowered and driven by the overall mission. Each artisan, manager, designer, and executive was a source of knowledge and inspiration. Grace and compassion filled every conversation. I can’t wait to come back.

What a memorable and delightful way to spend a day. This was a peek into each step of the rug weaving process, from rug design and materials storage, to the actual weaving being done by artisans, to seeing the finished products in the showroom. Shipra, the weavers and their families, and the Jaipur Rugs staff - compassionate beyond measure! Would recommend this experience without hesitation! The tour was longer than advertised (abt 7 hrs) as my plans were flexible but I imagine it could be kept to the 4 hrs if needed, with communication ahead of time.

It was a lovely experience. The women of the village gave me a warm welcome into their community, and showed me how they weave rugs and I even tried to knot myself. They showed me how they made bangles, and I enjoyed an amazing lunch. These women are truly inspiring.
